Introduction
Management Information Systems (MIS) have become an essential tool for organizations in the modern business world. This study aims to investigate the impact of implementing a MIS on the performance of college admissions. This research will provide insight into the benefits and challenges associated with MIS implementation and its effects on key performance indicators such as efficiency, decision making, and communication.
As a team, we have had the opportunity to analyze the business systems of the institution in which we learn. One of our members, Emilie Pereira, works as a student ambassador for undergraduate admissions at Kean University and has connected us with insider information regarding the department. The institution currently holds four campuses. These include locations in Union, Ocean County, Jefferson, and Wenzhou, China. Kean has roughly 4,000 employees and 15,000 students. We have interviewed Erica Robinson, director of the department, in order to learn more about the department and its strategies.
The admissions department undergoes various tasks involving the use of information systems. These tasks include the use of a program called Slate, a database where all current and prospective student information is held. When analyzing and processing applications, the admission counselors use this database to view vital information regarding the applicant. The counselor is also able to view documents that the applicant uploads from their student portal, which is connected to Slate. With the knowledge gained from the interview, we will report on the department's business strategy, structures process analysis, dynamic process analysis, and then provide our own recommendations.
